Water horehound (Lycopus europaeus) belongs to the Lamiaceae family. The most important ingredient in water horehound herb is lithospermic acid. It also contains hydroxycinnamic and caffeic acid derivatives, flavonoids, fluorides and essential oils. Water horehound herb is said to contribute to lowering thyroid levels, in mild hyperthyroidism with accompanying symptoms, such as nervousness and palpitations.
