In nature, vitamin A is often found in form of long-chain fatty acid esters. The best-known type is retinol palmitate, which is primarily contained in animal-based foods. It is the most stable form of vitamin A and serves as a storage compound. Vitamin A has several functions in the body. It contributes to the maintenance of normal skin, mucous membranes, and normal vision. It also has a role in the process of cell specialization, supports the normal function of the immune system, and contributes to normal iron metabolism. As vitamin A is fat-soluble, a low-fat diet can reduce its bioavailability. To enhance its absorption, retinol palmitate in Vitadral® Drops is dissolved in peanut oil.
