Pyridoxal-5-phosphate is the metabolically active form of vitamin B6. Vitamin B6 is involved in more than 160 biochemical reactions in the body and, as a component of numerous enzyme systems, plays an essential role in human metabolism. It contributes, among other things, to normal energy-yielding metabolism as well as to normal protein and glycogen metabolism, and supports the regulation of hormonal activity. Vitamin B6 is particularly important in homocysteine metabolism and in the synthesis of cysteine. In this process, the enzyme cystathionine β-synthase catalyses the conversion of homocysteine into cystathionine, which is subsequently converted into the amino acid cysteine. Vitamin B6 is required as a cofactor for these reactions. It therefore contributes to normal cysteine synthesis and to normal homocysteine metabolism. In addition, vitamin B6 contributes to normal functioning of the nervous system, helps in the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, and contributes to normal psychological function. It also plays a role in the normal red blood cell formation and contributes to the normal function of the immune system. Pyridoxal-5-phosphate 25 mg GPH Capsules contain pyridoxal-5-phosphate, the already activated form of vitamin B6. As no conversion in the body is necessary, the vitamin can be directly utilised in metabolism and exert its functions efficiently.
