Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris L.) belongs to the daisy family (Asteraceae). The most important ingredients of the mugwort herb are essential oil (cineol and thujone), bitter substances and tannins. Already Hildegard von Bingen appreciated the mugwort, in her writings she recommended to eat it cooked or to add it to other dishes. Mugwort tastes spicy, slightly bitter and smells aromatic. The mugwort herb is used mainly for its beneficial effect on the gastrointestinal tract.
