Heather Ointment
Heather is a dwarf shrub up to 60 cm high with tiny, small leaves and pink to pale purple flowers that grows in the temperate zones of the northern hemisphere on heathland, in moors and in forests. It is harvested in the late summer during the flowering period. The plant is highly valued for its ingredients. These include arbutin, hydroquinone and tannins. When applied externally, they can reduce reddening of the skin. It is also used for its beneficial effects on heated joints.
