Description
Fucus Spray
The common bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus L.), also known as sea oak, belongs to the brown algae family (Fucaceae). One distinctive feature of bladderwrack is its characteristic, fish-like odor. The most important constituents are iodine, β-carotene, alginic acid, fucoidan and laminarin found in the alga. In folk medicine, common bladderwrack is mainly used as a tea, and today it is used in slimming tea blends. Hildegard von Bingen also describes a so-called „slimming elixir“ in her writings.
