Dictamnus (Dictamnus albus) belongs to the diamond family (Rutaceae). Dictamnus leaves and dried dictamnus roots are often used in folk medicine to promote menstruation, as a diuretic and for stomach problems. The root contains dictamnin, saponin, essential oils, sugar and wax. In Hildegard von Bingen’s nutritional therapy, dictamnus powder is simply sprinkled over food or stirred into soups as a remedy for arteriosclerosis and increased blood lipid levels.
