Copper, a trace element in the human body, is involved as a component of enzymes in various metabolic processes. It contributes to normal nervous system function, normal immune system function, normal energy metabolism, normal skin and hair pigmentation, and the maintenance of normal connective tissue. In addition, copper contributes to normal iron transport in the body as well as to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. Since copper and zinc compete for absorption in the body, an increased intake of zinc can impair copper absorption. Therefore, when zinc is taken simultaneously, attention should be paid to maintaining a balanced copper level. In this formulation, copper is present in chelated form. This allows it to reach the intestine unharmed and be absorbed into the cells through specific transport systems in the wall of the small intestine. Copper chelate is also particularly gentle on the stomach and is therefore well tolerated even by sensitive individuals.
