Boswellia is the resin of the Indian frankincense tree (Boswellia serrata). The resin has been used in the traditional Indian naturopathy the „Ayurveda“ (knowledge of healthy living) under the name „Sallaki“ for over 3,000 years as an important remedy. In this medicine the resin is used for a number of inflammatory diseases. Today, it seems certain that the boswellic acids inhibit inflammatory processes. For preparations both the ground raw resin as well as extracts are used. Most commonly, however, dry extracts are used, which are said to have a positive effect on rheumatism, gout, respiratory diseases, but also on stomach and intestinal problems and migraine.
