Vitamin D3, also called cholecalciferol, belongs to the group of lipo-soluble vitamins. It has a special status as it can be produced in the skin with the help of UV-radiation from the sunlight. Solar radiation during fall and winter is not enough to ensure an optimal supply. Furthermore, storage of vitamin D is limited. Thus, a regular supplementation would be of use, especially during sunless times. Vitamin D3 promotes formation and maturation of bone stem cells. It also regulates the absorption of calcium and promotes the incorporation of calcium and phosphate into bones and teeth (mineralization), making them hard and strong. In addition, the combination with vitamin K2 may positively influence bone health.
