Myrrh (Commiphora molmol), also known as true myrrh, gum resina or red myrrh, is a representative of the balsam shrub family (Burseraceae). The plant possesses disinfecting and granulation-promoting properties, which are used in inflammatory diseases of the oral and pharyngeal mucosa. In folk medicine it is used as a carminative and as an expectorant.
