Even today, the black elder is highly valued. Not without reason NHV (Association for the promotion of natural healing) chose this shrub as the medicinal plant of the year 2024. The legendary tree also has a long tradition in herbology: Its berries are considered to stimulate sweating and are said to be diuretic. The black elder is not only rich in tannins and mucilage, the berries of this special shrub also contain high amounts of vitamin C and are the most anthocyanin-rich foods plainly. Therefor, and due to their ability to loosen mucus in the nose and throat, these berries are particularly suitable for consumption during the cold season. The purple colouring sambucyanin is beneficial for the heart and circulation. Clearly, the elderberry is a true all-rounder.
